Watch the first TriOut commercial shown at @IgniteRaleigh #GIW

Posted: March 4th, 2010

Last night at Ignite Raleigh, TriOut was one of the sponsors in which we had the opportunity to show a 30 second commercial. Take a look at what we came up with for the first ever TriOut commercial and let us know what you think.

The music is by Discovery, song titled, Osaka Loop Line.

Also we had a special badge for TriOut users who checked in either at the Lincoln Theatre or at the Ignite Raleigh 2 event using the TriOut iPhone app. When users check-in they saw the Ignite Raleigh event badge below.

A big thanks to the community for your support and for the people who screamed when the video was shown at Ignite Raleigh, we love you!

Watch for the 1st ever TriOut Commercial at Ignite Raleigh 2. First 10 to check-in gets a sticker!

Posted: March 3rd, 2010

Ignite Raleigh (IgniteRaleigh) on Twitter

We’re please to announce that TriOut is a sponsor of Ignite Raleigh 2. “Ignite events were originally conceived as technology variety shows, but they have grown into much more than that. Ignite is about ideas. Ideas can change the world. And it takes less than five minutes to spread one. Each presenter gets five minutes on stage with 20 slides that rotate automatically after 15 seconds Around the world communities have been coming together to share their ideas.”

As a sponsor we have a TriOut banner on the website (http://IgniteRaleigh.com ) and we’re going to reveal our first ever TriOut commercial as a sponsored video during the event.

TriOut Stickers

Also the first 10 TriOut users to check-in will receive a TriOut / TriDot sticker like the ones above. Even if you’re not one of the first 10 to check-in, everyone who checks in will receive 10 TriOut points and see a special Ignite Raleigh Badge.

Thanks for the support and we’ll see you tonight at Ignite Raleigh!

Show off your TriOut Check-ins with 3 new TriOut Widgets

Posted: March 2nd, 2010

Since launching TriOutNC a few weeks ago we have been blown away by the feedback and support from the community. We want to say thanks and since the launch Lawrence has been plugging away adding new features for a better user experience. One feature since the launch was the ability to upload photos to a location via the website and receive points for upload just like the mobile version. Today we’re pleased to announce that we have created two TriOut widgets allowing you to show off your recent TriOut check-ins. You can use the widgets on your blog/website. Take a look at the examples below.

Option 1: Example Widget Showing Check Ins as a Google Map

Option 2: Example Widget Showing Check Ins as a List

Option 3: Example Widget Showing Single Check In as a Google Map

The widgets are easy to modify and you can find your check-in widget here http://trioutnc.com/u/widgets.php. By default if you’re not logged in the user ID is 0 but if you’re logged in the widget will show your recent check-ins.

Again thanks for the support and if you have any questions use the feedback link. Follow @TriOut on twitter and continue to read our blog for upcoming announcements and new features we’re adding to TriOut.

TriOut 1.2 for iPhone Now Available

Posted: March 1st, 2010

The latest version of our iPhone app has been approved and should be available on the App Store soon. If you’ve already got it installed, you’ll see the red dot to update. So what’s in this update?

- Much improved photo uploading. It’s faster and should fix any crashes you’ve experienced in the past.

- Faster launch time when opening the app, down to just 3 seconds from the first tap.

- New “Speedy Check In” for those of you in a hurry. Skip the grid, skip the taps. Just launch the app and it’ll find you automatically. Only one tap for a check in. Turn this on in Settings.

- Ratings are now shown throughout the app while you’re scrolling through lists of locations.

We think it’s a pretty good upgrade, let us know what you think once you get your hands on it. We’ve also done a lot of little bug fixes, so this version should be really stable. I’ve been using the final build for over a week now and haven’t experienced a single crash!

TriOut buzz and thoughts from a newbie/non-iPhone user via @jennix5

Posted: February 22nd, 2010

For the past two weeks (yes, that’s how quickly these guys pulled the launch together) I had the pleasure of working with Wayne (@waynesutton) and Lawrence (@lawpower) on some party planning and public relations for the TriOut launch. Before this, I had seen the #TriOut hashtag on Twitter, but hadn’t paid much attention to it, as it was another one of those location-based services that 1) you needed an iPhone to use — which this Verizon customer doesn’t have — and 2) a single female who doesn’t want to attract a stalker by posting my location every time I walk out the door.

When Wayne asked me to help out with the launch, I agreed because I thought it would be fun to work with him, but didn’t know a whole lot about the product they were launching. I can honestly tell you that after talking with Wayne and Lawrence, I was sold on the idea of TriOut. I love that privacy was a chief concern and that Lawrence was building the Web site as a second component to the iPhone app. I also love that it focuses on our area, and the ratings system brings credibility to the rankings and reviews.

Non-iPhone users have to be patient. The Web site is still a work in progress.  Web users can join the service, but Lawrence is still working on bringing full-functionality to the site. For now, Web users cannot add new locations or customize their profiles or privacy settings. (All users are defaulted to full privacy.) But don’t worry, he’s working on getting the second update ready.

Honestly, I can’t wait. I’ve noticed a few of my favorite spots that aren’t on there yet that I’m looking forward to adding to the service.  I believe our patience will be fully rewarded when Lawrence gets through with the update.

From my side of things, I want to say thanks to Cara (@CaraRousseau) at RTP Headquarters (@theRTP). Your facility and staff rocks! I think I fell in love that evening — with the excellent barbecue from Smokin’ Man BBQ (@SmokinManBBQ). I’m trying to figure out what kind of event I can host so I can get them to cater. And another thanks to Nantucket Grill for the cool TriOut cake and the richest brownies I’ve ever eaten.

Now enough from me. Here’s the buzz about TriOut…
